On January 3, 2009, Hayley Hobson invited me to NoBo Pilates to teach a workshop on the Guillotine. Mary Bowen told me that Joe Pilates called this equipment “Gym in a Doorway”. The name conjures images of a house in which we would wiggle from a kitchen to the living area while stopping for a moment to practice some arm work. It is not such a departure from Joe’s ideas regarding a bed with springs attached for a brisk workout before stepping onto the floor or a chair that could be used as a seat or turned into an exercise opportunity at a whim.
Haley arranged for a great group of students. A consistent comment regarding the Guillotine is amazement and appreciation for the diversity of the Pilates work and that each equipment element augments the syllabus.
Hayley Hobson is an intelligent, caring, and committed student. Hayley has created a studio environment that is comprehensive and comfortable. If you have not experienced the Guillotine, visit NoBo or Pat Guyton Pilates, Inc.
By the way does anyone have Joe’s “V” folding bed? I am curious.
